Do you know whether Shaw will still be reviewing restaurants?
I've been pleasantly impressed with the section's layout and content under Ms. Browning-Blas' leadership. (And more than unimpressed with Mr. Shaw's reviews.) I'll be curious to watch the quality of the section, and will hope that this takes Mr. Shaw out of the reviewer's position as @anonymous suggests.
Rob - I didn't interpret Anonymous's question about whether Tucker Shaw would continue to review restaurants as a suggestion that he no longer do so. I thought s/he was simply curious.
When it comes to visions of newspaper sections or magazines, IMHO, there is never only one approach. The fact that Kris oversaw a section with excellent content (including winning a James Beard Award for food sections in newspaper of comparable size) doesn't mean that the redesign won't also be equally good but different.
It is my understanding from Kris herself that they were both ready for a change in their areas of responsibility.
Sorry; the negative spin is all my own. I just meant that if he were to stop reviewing (as anon suggested), I'd support that. And I think it's quite possible he'll do a good job editing the section; his book was well-conceived and designed, and that's what got him the reviewer job, if I understand right.
But I also respectfully stand by my position that his reviews do not meet the high standard set by other reviewers in town.
Rob - No apologies needed for opinionated comments posted on this blog. Ever. Keep reading. Keep commenting. And let's revisit the POST food section changes in a few weeks.
