Bistro Adde Brewster was a long-time tenant at 250 Steele Street, but I've lost track of what else has come and gone in the five years or so since it closed. The latest is French 250, which has been getting all sorts of attention for its special services. The FFR (fancy French restaurant) offers complimentary roundtrip limousine transportation for up to six guests (first come, first served) within a 10-mile radius of Cherry Creek North. French 250 has also partnered with Poocharella for dog walking services during dinner ($25 an hour per dog; extra time additional); 303-564-1163. I've never eaten at French 250, and my son is grown. Still, I really applaud their weekly Special Sunday French Family Tasting (4:30 to 8:00 p.m.), replicating the French tradition when families and friends to sit down and enjoy good, simply prepared Sunday dinner. The three-course dinner comprises soup or salad, two entrees and dessert. The price is $25-$35 for adults, depending on what's on the week's menu, and $25 for children. Phone 303-331-0250.
Frank Bonanno named his first Denver restaurant Mizuna after Japanese salad green, his second Luca d'Italia after his older son, Luca, and his newest venture debuting next month Osteria Marco, after his younger son, Marco, whose birthday is on the 17th -- and that could be opening day. The latest will be at 1453 Larimer Street. Each one is less formal than the previous -- kind of like a growing human family. No phone number yet for the osteria.
Another Italian restaurant that has opened on Larimer is Pullicella Denver, the third Pulcinella Ristorante (after Fort Collins and Lafayette, plus several Pulcinella Pizzerias. The new Denver restaurant is at 1800 Larimer Street; 303-382-1444.
Born-in-Santa Fe Railyard Restaurant and Saloon has been gaining traction since opening in Boulder in the Twenty-Ninth Street retail development a few months ago. It is between Borders Books and the new movie theaters. Phone number is 303-449-0039.
I haven't yet tried Shells & Sauce in the Congress Park area since it opened in July, but this Italian restaurant been getting raves. It is located at 2600 E. 12th Avenue; 303-377-2091.
Word is that Thomas Salumovich, owner of Vail's acclaimed Larkspur, is opening a new restaurant in Denver to be called Watermark. I haven't a clue as to where it will be or when it will open. Speaking of Larkspur, Kevin Furtado, the sommelier, uses some of the slow fall season to make his own wine at a California Central Coast winery under the K. Furtado label.
Boulder's West End Tavern celebrates its 20th birthday throughout October with a variety of specials, starting with two burgers, two beers and appetizers or dessert for $20 and ending with Bronco Night Burger Madness on the 29th and a 1987 Halloween Party on the 31st. The West End Tavern is at 926 Pearl Street; 303-444-3535.
Each of the six courses during Barolo Grill's Truffle Festival, November 14-16, includes black or white truffles that owner Blair Taylor reportedly brought back from Italy himself. The dinner is $160 per person. Reservations are required; call 303-393-1040.
Not in metro Denver but of interest to foodies in the city is the upcoming Beaver Creek Culinary Festival, January 31 through February 2, which includes visiting chefs and local restaurants. Individual event tickets are $20-$100. The schedule is on-line now, and further information is available from 888-920-2787.
Spicy Pickle is soon opening its second location in Boulder at 2520 Broadway, where it will dispense subs, panini, soups and salads. I'm not wild about chains, but this one at least is headquartered in Denver. Other national chains that have recently set up shop in greater Denver, or are about to, include Gelazzi, Bubba Gump and Fish City Grill. I'm not excited.

Spicy Pickle is good, check out the Smiling Moose on Colorado Blvd. The wraps and sandwiches are creative and extremely tasty!
Both are Colorado chains. Boulder now has two Spicy Pickles -- the original on Pearl around Folsom-28th and recently opened one on Broadway, near Alpine. Only the latter is really news. The company is based in Denver.
The first Smiling Moose was in Edwards. There are now additional locations in Carbondale, Eagle, Edwards, Frisco, Silverthorne and, as you mentioned, Denver. .
